Karenina van den Crommenacker (Amsterdam, 1998) is interested in the relationship between the human and the more-than-human world. She approaches the human body as an organism that forms part of a larger ecosystem. The body itself is also an ecosystem: the microbiome. From this perspective, death is not an endpoint, but part of a cyclical ecological process of growth and decay.

Karenina completed her Master's in Fine Arts, Ecology Futures at St. Joost this year. Karenina is a bio-artist and visual researcher. She is curious about everything the more-than-human world can teach us. She finds it very interesting how other organisms and whole ecosystems work. In her work, she focuses on things we often overlook and makes them more visible to people.
