Art without bounds: a collaboration with Grafisch Atelier

By Hans November — 21 October 2021

As a museum, we are also committed to supporting local artists in difficult times. We joined forces with Grafisch Atelier Den Bosch and invited ten talented Brabant artists to produce a graphic design. The works were presented at the museum in the summer of 2021 and were also for sale online. This article tells you a bit more.

Together, Het Noordbrabants Museum and Grafisch Atelier selected ten talented artists with Brabant roots. They were: Nan Groot Antink, Femke Dekkers, Arjan Janssen, Jeroen de Leijer, Lotte van Lieshout, Saskia de Maree, Dineke van Oosten, Tijs Rooijakkers, Joran van Soest, and Ema Vaneková. A diverse bunch, with very different levels of experience of graphic techniques. Some of these artists have been working for years with screen printing or have experience of etching, while others normally outsource the printing of their work. Consequently, the artists can ask for support from a 'workshop foreman' at Grafisch Atelier.

'I'm looking forward to exploring a new technique. This project makes me feel that what I make really matters.'

— Lotte van Lieshout

Bigger income, wider reach

'This collaboration genuinely boosts the artists' income,' explains Hans November, Head of Collection, Education, and Presentation. 'It also widens their reach, which is tremendously important these days. The Grafisch Atelier workshop offers artists, designers, and creatives plenty of space to work and experiment – with support, if needed.'

For sale

Each of the ten artists independently decided which techniques they would use, but all the works had to be the same size: 60 by 40 centimetres. The works were printed in a run of ten. The first print run was added to the collection of Het Noordbrabants Museum, and the other nine are for sale.
