Sensory-friendly museum visit

Every first Saturday of the month

Do you find it difficult to visit our museum during regular opening hours because of sensory overload? On the first Saturday morning of each month, we offer a sensory-friendly museum experience. During these special openings, visitor numbers are limited, the lighting is adjusted, and a dedicated quiet room is available. To help you prepare and feel at ease, we’ve listed all practical information clearly and simply. This way, you’ll know exactly what to expect and can enjoy part of our permanent collection, the Palace Rooms, in a calm and welcoming environment.

What to expect?

  • Open before regular museum hours

  • Stroll through part of the museum: from contemporary art to Van Gogh

  • Fewer visitors

  • Reduced noise levels

  • Adjusted lighting plan

  • Welcome by specially trained hosts

  • Quiet room available – to take a break before, during or after your visit

  • Benches available in nearly every gallery

  • No sensory aids provided on-site

  • We recommend wearing soft-soled shoes – no heels

  • The Museum Brasserie and Museum Shop are closed

With thanks to

The sensory-friendly museum visit has been developed in collaboration with Stichting Onbeperkt Genieten, an organization that supports museums in organizing sensory-friendly activities. This initiative is made possible with the generous support of the cooperative Rabobank and the Dutch Brain Foundation (Hersenstichting).
