Discovering Modernity

Picasso, Dalí, Mondriaan, Klee, Miró, Léger, Daniëls

Collecting is an art. Besides the treasures held in museums, equally fantastic collections have been put together by private collectors. Due to the passion and great knowledge of the collector, this private collection covers practically all names and movements of modern art.

The collection provides an insightful overview of modernism in the 20th century, a period that is more eventful than the two preceding centuries combined. Driven by an urge to experiment, artists look for new forms and images as classical rules and realism give way to radical innovation. Developments follow each other in rapid succession, and their effects are still felt in today’s art. Fittingly, the exhibition also features world-famous artists such as Luc Tuymans, Olafur Eliasson and Anish Kapoor as well as internationally renowned Dutch artists, such as René Daniëls and JCJ Vanderheyden.
